The 2007 Finance Division Employee of the Year Award was presented to Mr. Anthony Pagnoni of the Department of Information Services on December 10, 2007. Tony has been with Downstate Medical Center for 27 years and has made significant contributions in bringing Downstate to state-of-the-art status in information technology. There were nine nominees for the award and each and every one of them showcases outstanding performance, professionalism and dedication. Congratulations to Tony and the other nominees. Sheila Duffy, Director of Finance of the HSCB Foundation, has been elected to become one of the eleven national Board of Directors of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS) and the Treasurer of the association. Congratulations! Sheila served as Treasurer of the association's eastern region for nine years and her professionalism and dedication gained her the nomination and election. Sheila is the first African American female to be elected to that position. |

No one can be denied medically necessary care because of limited income or no health insurance. Hospital Finance has established a Financial Counselor to assist patients of the University Hospital of Brooklyn in obtaining financial assistance. For more information, please call Ms. Yolanda Moore-Rosario at (718) 270-1031. This service is provided by the Patient Financial Services Department. |

In September 2007, the Emergency Services Department at Downstate Medical Center successfully implemented the new T-SystemEV which is a computerized evidence based emergency services management information system consisting of the following modules: physician and nurse charting, patient tracking, discharge instructions, medical order status, and laboratory results retrieval. |

The Early Alert & Response System (EARS), an emergency text messaging alert system, is now available at Downstate Medical Center. The system will send emergency messages instantly to employees' cell phones, wireless PDAs, My Yahoo, My AOL and personalized iGoogle homepages.
